Lilia and Saville: Sisters Share Their Thanks for Mom After Brain Tumor Diagnoses

--

Lilia and Saville are close-knit sisters, just a few years apart in age and separated only by distance as they attend the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama. When Lilia was diagnosed with an astrocytoma at age 16, Saville was by her side.

And then the unthinkable happened — within a month, Saville was diagnosed with medulloblastoma at age 19. Together, their family had to face the incredibly rare, harsh reality of not just one, but two pediatric brain tumor diagnoses.

In this beautiful letter they shared for Mother’s Day, these young women credit their mom Colleen for helping them through this journey:

Dear Mom,

We cannot imagine what we would have done without you by our sides. Through all of the doctor’s appointments, MRIs, chemotherapies, and radiation treatments, you were always right there for us.

We will never be able to put into words our gratitude. Simply, we could not have done it without you.

Days like these felt very long, but no matter what, you were always there for us. You always have pushed to have a positive mindset in our lives. Your faith spoke loudly as you carried us through every step of the way, and we are still amazed by your courage.

You attended to our every need. When we were sick, grumpy, sad, nauseous, nervous, and at our very worst, you were always there. When we needed a friend to talk to, you were there for us. When we needed a hand to hold, you were there. Someone to wipe away our tears, you were there. A small smile to brighten our darkened days, there you stood.

You are the reason we were able to get through the hardships we were faced with. Thank you for the sacrifices that you made for us. Your strength, beauty, grace, and strong faith are what helped us get through the tough days. There is really no way to put into words how special you are or how much you mean to us. Just know our love for you is everlasting.

You have cared for and loved us through it all — not just on the hard days, but on the great days too. We could not do life without you. You amaze us every day, and we are beyond blessed and honored to call you our “Mama”. Thank you, mom, we LOVE you.

Your girls,
Saville & Lilia

This Mother’s Day, we invite all of our Star and Eternal Star families to show mom and the other special women in their lives how much they mean to them. Share your note of thanks, photos or videos on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the hashtags #CareCureThrive and #MothersDay.

You can also donate to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in honor or memory of the amazing women in your life, and fund research so that no mom has to experience her child’s brain tumor diagnosis. Choose from one of our e-cards featuring artwork by children with brain tumors to help tell her you care.
